General Purpose

The Instrument and Controls Technician ensures that the Chehalis Combined-Cycle Generation Facility and equipment is maintained in a safe and efficient manner, while making sure that all applicable statutory and non-statutory requirements are complied with and records maintained.  The Chehalis facility operates 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.  This position will be required to work as required to cover plant breakdown and scheduled outages including weekends and public holidays when required.

Responsibilities

  • Implementation of the maintenance programs & strategy for the plant.
  • Evaluate overall facility and individual equipment performance, and advocate improvements and/or resolve problems.
  • Diagnose and repair the cause of electric and control malfunctions of equipment.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained to the required standard, and /or recommendations and ensure that routine maintenance is carried out.
  • Ensure that the facility complies with the Safety Program and the Environmental Compliance Program and relevant Federal, State and Local laws, company policy, site specific rules and that all reasonable precautions are taken to prevent incidents of noncompliance.
  • Maintain all plant equipment to a high standard to maximize plant availability, reliability and efficiency. 
  • Maintain, update and develop plant maintenance procedures, documentation, drawings, databases etc.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshoot, repair, overhaul, test, and retrofit or install plant components as assigned.
  • Interpret and work with schematics, diagrams, service manuals, etc.
  • Establish and maintain detailed records of readings, test results, and data
  • Contribute to the improvement, modification and design of new and existing plant / equipment to improve performance and reduce maintenance costs.
  • Use of SAP maintenance management system to raise and plan defects / routine maintenance into the work program scheduling.
  • Prepare contract documentation for specific contracts and undertake tender assessments in conjunction with procurement staff as assigned.
  • Manage contractors carrying out specific contract work, and ensure compliance with site instructions as assigned or as required.
  • Assist with operational activities where appropriate in order to return plant to service as quickly as possible.
  • Participate in special projects and duties as assigned.
  • Analyze equipment problems and take action to correct and advise the manager when outside assistance is necessary.
  • Perform the housekeeping functions and equipment cleaning.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities assigned by the manager, but not specifically stated in this description.

Requirements

  • A minimum 3 years of journeyman level instrumentation and controls technician maintenance experience in the maintenance of a large electric generating plant or similar industrial facility or process.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Basic proficiency with computers and related software
  • Demonstrated team working skills

Knowledge/Skills:

  • General power plant maintenance knowledge, skills and work abilities.
  • Knowledge of GE 7FA gas turbine & generator and Alstom steam turbine & generator maintenance requirements, including high voltage switchyard equipment, instrumentation and protective relay schemes.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical one-lines, logic drawings, technical manuals and P&ID's.
  • Ability to efficient and adapt to, think creatively and manage multiple projects.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to make clear and competent decisions in emergency situations.
