General Purpose

PacifiCorp is seeking a Manager, Transmission Grid Operations for its Portland, Oregon office.

Job Duties: Oversee and direct all aspects of transmission grid operations. Audit, and enforce regulatory requirements such as NERC and WECC standards. Review, approve, and oversee complex switching processes and other operational functions. Manage the operation of transmission system performance including operation in the energy imbalance market. Direct large and unique outage restoration efforts. Contribute in market participation which includes overseeing expansion of the energy imbalance market and facilitating projects for energy resources to participate in the market. Oversee the modeling of the electrical system and the performance of computer power flows for use in contingency analysis studies. Administer the applications of the EMS/SCADA system and tools. Provide oversight and training for grid operators on protection and control schemes, outage management and electrical systems operations. Work with the Information Technology department to ensure support for software and mainframe services. Improve operational performance by targeting critical inefficiencies, developing effective processes, and enhancing staff coordination.


Education Requirement: Bachelor’s degree (or Foreign equivalent) in Engineering or related field. 

Experience Requirements: Six (6) years of experience in transmission grid operations of the electric utility industry or related occupation, which includes each of the following:

  • Six (6) years of experience in distribution and dispatch operations.
  • Six (6) years of experience in electrical system operations and planning, EMS systems (SCADA, Network Model, State Estimation and Advanced Applications), outage management programs (CADOPS and COMPASS), and accident prevention manuals.
  • Six (6) years of experience with power flow tools, load forecast tools and applications, power flow contingency analysis and stability analysis.
  • Two (2) years of experience in Energy Market Operations.
  • Two (2) years of experience balancing and scheduling tools and procedures as per the North American Energy Standard Board (NAESB).
  • Two (2) years of experience with substation apparatus equipment, relay protection equipment and communications equipment.
  • Two (2) years of experience in budgeting and company policies and procedures.
