General Purpose

This position manages the day to day operations of the GIS production group which has the primary responsibility of mapping and maintaining the electrical system assets and connectivity model. Assists in establishing and implementing business objectives, strategies, and organizational objectives. Manages employee resources and is responsible for the coaching and development of employees within the technical staff.

Responsibilities

  • Provide operational management of GIS Staff.
  • Develop and ensure productivity goals are set, measured, met and maintained.
  • Maximize work performance and quality 
  • Lead company efforts to develop and improve mapping, find and implement efficiencies and provide recommendations on the use of technologies.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and implement efficiency, standardizations and improvements to ensure rapid customer response and data quality.
  • Work across PacifiCorp groups to ensure proper management and delivery of geospatial data and develop working relationships and agreements.
  • Provide plans, processes, targets and implementation and feedback mechanisms or tools for establishing best practices. 
  • Manage projects, customer client expectations and related interaction between customers and the project team(s).
  • Review engineering drawings and field mark-ups per detailed drawings from estimators, engineers while maintaining department standards/guidelines. 
  • Work closely with estimators, engineers, and operations managers to address issues.
  • Review and validate department work product.
  • Guide technical staff assisting with analysis, recommendations and/or implementation of technical procedure, current and future technologies and process enhancements.
  • Develop and monitor metrics and measures for the GIS Production group and reports to director. 
  • Assist director in supporting internal initiatives, facilitating GIS services to company business units, generating proposals, and project estimates.
  • Facilitate team efforts, provide guidance and direction to team members, and communicate project objectives, parameters, status, and outcomes.
  • Select, coach, review and evaluate employee performance and prepare annual reviews.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in business, engineering, computer science, geographic information systems (GIS) or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of five years of experience managing and leading people.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate team efforts, provide guidance and direction to team members, communicate expectations, project objectives, parameters, status, and outcomes.
  • Strong leadership and teamwork skills including the ability to implement action plans for achieving objectives and to oversee daily operations.
  • Experience with productivity performance, volume, and quality metric measurement.
  • Extensive experience using Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience working in an high volume utility production mapping department
  • Significant and demonstrated technical experience with ESRI ArcGIS and ArcFM.
  • Experience working with AutoCAD, electrical utility operations, electrical systems connectivity, and related mapping and spatial data management. Assessment skills including problem diagnosis and identification of proper methods and techniques to resolve and prevent future problems.
  • Analytical and evaluation skills to define critical tasks, establish sequence of events, identify individuals/teams, timelines, and outcomes, and product project plans.
  • Project management skills to develop and monitor work and budgets, determine specifications, schedules, timelines, and define deliverables.
