General Purpose

Develops engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments associated with the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of the company's transmission, distribution, or other utility facilities/systems.

Responsibilities

Engineer I level responsibilities of this position include the following:
• Design, develop, modify, and evaluate systems, process, or facilities to support company objectives, utilizing engineering methods to support company Asset Management objectives and activities for Transmission and Distribution Operations organization.Run equipment and performance tests and install and inspect new equipment.
• Conduct site inspections to ensure adherence to engineering standards. Develop specifications for procurement of equipment and / or contractual services to support power plant operations.
• Develop capital project estimates and justifications.  
In addition to the above, the Engineer II responsibilities include the following:
• Determine methods and techniques for obtaining results.
• Guide and direct Engineer I, technicians and drafters.
• Recommend alternative solutions to management in area of specialty on engineering solutions to meet business needs.
• Deliver on commitments and manage outside engineering services to accomplish the assigned work.
• Analyze and design engineering methods.
•  Manage capital projects and meet capital budget targets in accordance with recognized company best practices.
In addition to the above, the Sr. Level responsibilities include the following: 
• Design, develop, modify, and evaluate systems, process, or facilities to support company objectives, utilizing engineering methods to support company Asset Management objectives and activities for Transmission and Distribution Operations organization.
• Perform analysis on company owned assets to prioritize maintenance and capital investments for the 10-year capital plan.
• Perform condition, criticality, risk assessments, life-cycle analysis and other equipment evaluations on system assets.
• Develop highly complex engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments for programs such as wildfire mitigation and reliability improvement.
• Determine methods and techniques for obtaining results.
• Act as a lead/expert in the work group; train and mentor associate and career level engineers, technicians and drafters.
• Recommend alternative engineering solutions to management to meet business needs.
• Deliver on commitments and manage outside engineering services to accomplish the assigned work.
• Monitor and report on performance and reliability of distribution and transmission system assets.
• Collaborate with groups to analyze and develop projects to ensure high level of reliability and customer service.
• Maintain project timelines and budgets.
• Audit, analyze, and report the overall success of completed initiatives.

Requirements

Engineer I level requirements for this position include the following:
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college/university.
• Basic knowledge and application of principles in area of engineering specialty.
• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations for California Independent System Operator (CAISO), Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) and the National Electrical Safety Codes (NESC).
• Ability to interact favorably with project and work teams.
• Communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations.
• Proficient with the use of personal computers and automated tools.
• Valid Driver License
• Ability to travel and perform field visits
In addition to the above, the requirements for the Engineer II position include the following:
• A minimum of two years of directly related experience in engineering related field.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations.
• Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations while maintaining focus and calmness.
• Ability to provide timely assessments with limited information and/or assumptions.

In addition to the above, the requirements for the Sr. Level position include the following:
• A minimum of five or more years of experience in industrial power systems or electric utility power systems, or related professional experience.
• Project management and leadership skills including the ability to work as a team member, to maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver on commitments.
• Understanding of company’s business, and relevant policies, procedures, and practices.

Hiring Range: $71,700 - $110,500 

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 12.00% of salary.
