General Purpose

The cable splicers perform station inspections, troubleshooting, lead cable repair, and new construction in the downtown Salt Lake City service territory that is comprised of high rise office buildings, corporate headquarters, and high rise/high density living.  The position requires an 18 month training program to become certified and proficient in repairing failed lead cable and working in energized confined spaces.

Job Description
  • Install and maintain electric underground distribution circuits requiring the skill of lead cable splicing. 
  • Also performs overhead line work and work associated with transmission and distribution substations as required.
  • Receives work direction and review from Substation Foreman, Line Supervisors and Substation and Underground Supervisor.
Requirements
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED.
  • Must be a Journeyman Lineman.
  • Must successfully complete the Lead Cable Splicer Training Program and become certified with eighteen (18) months.
  • Must have a Class A CDL
  • This position requires a post-offer, pre-placement physical capacity screening, conducted by a licensed physical therapist, to assure the candidate meets the physical demands of the job. The screening will assess only the identified physical demands of the job being applied for.  

Physical Demands The job duties of Lineman require lifting in excess of 75 lbs from floor to waist and waist to overhead, carrying in excess of 75 lbs with both hands, and pushing and pulling in excess of 100 lbs of exertional force.  Job duties of the Lineman require sustained, awkward positions/postures including bending and twisting at the waist and neck; reaching forward, to the side, across the body and overhead.  Additional requirements of the Lineman position include forceful grip and pinch; manipulation of small objects; balancing on one or both legs during dynamic activities; manipulation of large objects during activities requiring balance and sustained awkward postures.
