General Purpose
Provides professional legal support services to attorneys in form of document preparation, filing and service of court pleadings, management of document collection and drafting legal communications. May compile and analyze data, prepare reports/recommendations for action by supervisor. Assists with discovery and data requests, coordinates legal team response to inquiries from internal and external clients and counsel.
Responsibilities
- Develops, reviews, revises, formats and transmits legal correspondence, pleadings, discovery, affidavits, memorandum, agreements, and other documents of a complex nature.
- Prepares initial drafts of regulatory and compliance filings with state and federal agencies, adhering to federal/state laws and regulations.
- Develops presentations and periodic reports.
- Manages document collection and production for discovery and data responses, sometimes coordinating with outside vendors.
- Organizes legal files for all attorneys.
- Assists with quarterly litigation reports and reserve analysis documentation.
- Prepares litigation, mediation, and witness binders.
- Monitors court, FERC, and state commission dockets.
- Tracks service of process and documents served on the company.
- Manages document collection responsive to third party subpoenas.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of five years related professional experience.
- Working knowledge of litigation and regulatory process and experience with court and agency rules including filing and service requirements.
- Ability to accurately gather, compose, track, tabulate, and organize information including critical and/or sensitive information with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to work with all levels of the organization; ability to work as a member of a team.
- Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities with limited supervision and maintain legal confidential information.
- Proficient using Microsoft Word and Adobe Acrobat.
Preferences
- Experience in one or more of these areas: utility/energy; hydroelectric; regulatory/administrative; environmental; real estate/property; litigation
- Completion of paralegal certification.
- Experience with e-discovery practices and software, particularly Discovery Accelerator.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Teams, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience with electronic filing in both Federal and state courts.
