General Purpose

Develops engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, reports, and performance assessments associated with the planning, design, permitting, licensing, construction, operation, and maintenance of the company’s generation facilities and systems. This position will provide professional level services and technical oversight at the corporate level for ensuring a fleet of power plants comply with federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Engineer I position include the following:

  • Review and analyze data to ensure plant compliance with all permit limits. Alert management of deviations.
  • Works closely with directors, managers, and other engineers on high-level projects
  • Provide technical support to plant compliance; serves as a liaison between plant personal and corporate environmental services
  • Compile reports relating to air, waste, and water issues for submittal to regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain records of plant exceedances and maintenance records on emissions monitoring systems.
  • Oversee emissions testing and monitor certification.
  • Design, develop, modify, and evaluate systems, process, or facilities to support Company objectives, utilizing engineering methods. 
  • Analyze the system design, programming, and modification.
  • Develop moderately complex studies of limited scope and prepare data for cost estimations and analyses.
  • Run equipment and performance tests and install and inspect new equipment.
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure adherence to engineering standards
  • Maintain project timelines and budgets.
  • Recommend alternative engineering solutions to management to meet business needs. 
  • Deliver on commitments and manage outside engineering services to accomplish the assigned work.

In Addition, Responsibilities for the Engineer II Level Include: 

  • Develop engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments. 
  • Determine methods and techniques for obtaining results.
  • Guide and direct associate level engineers, technicians and drafters.
  • Recommend alternative solutions to management in area of specialty on engineering solutions to meet business needs.
  • Analyze and design environmental methods.

In Addition, Responsibilities for the Senior Level Include: 

  • Perform role as expert environmental consultant for field operations and facilities
  • Develop highly complex engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments. 
  • Act as a lead/expert in the work group; train and mentor associate and career level engineers, technicians and drafters.
Requirements

Requirements for Engineer I include the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant engineering discipline
  • Basic knowledge and application of principles in area of engineering specialty
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Ability to interact favorably with project and work teams.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations.
  • Proficient with the use of personal computers and automated tools.

In Addition, Requirements for Engineer II include:

  • A minimum of two years of directly related experience in engineering related field.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of environmental issues and the company’s business processes for areas of accountability.
  • Knowledge and application of principles in area of engineering specialty.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations.
  • Understanding of Company’s business, and relevant policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local laws, and regulations.
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations while maintaining focus and calmness.
  • Ability to provide timely assessments with limited information and/or assumptions.

In Addition, Requirements for the Senior Level include:

  • A minimum of five or more years’ experience in industrial power systems or electric utility power systems, or related professional experience.
  • Advanced technical knowledge and understanding of environmental issues and the company’s business processes.  Provide guidance to management on environmental compliance.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of principles in area of engineering specialty.
  • Project management and leadership skills including the ability to work as a team member, to maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver on commitments.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations
Preferences
  • Master’s degree in relevant engineering or environmental science discipline.
  • Working knowledge of air dispersion models such as CAMx, AIRMOD, CALPUFF.
  • Experience in air permitting, PSD/NSR, Title V.
  • Experience with SPCC plans, spill management and reporting, storm water treatment, NPDES permitting, waste water treatment and conveyance.
  • Working knowledge of the Coal Combustion Residuals rule.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, AutoCAD, SAP
