Responsibilities

An Apprentice Meterman is an Employee who, depending upon his/her ability and training: does routine testing of residential meters; does instrument transformer and meter wiring in the shop; reads demand meters and changes charts and tapes; and performs any of the duties listed under Section 17.6.4 and under the supervision of a Meter Foreman, Journeyman Meterman or an Electrician.

Requirements
  • Score of a 7 or better on the NJATC exam
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Candidate must pass all Apprentice Aptitude Tests. 
  • Valid Drivers License with a safe driving record.
  • This position requires a post-offer, pre-placement physical capacity screening, conducted by a licensed physical therapist, to assure the candidate meets the physical demands of the job. The screening will assess only the identified physical demands of the job being applied for.  
  • Physical Demands The job duties of Meterman require lifting in 42 lbs from floor to waist and waist to overhead, carrying in 42 lbs with one hand, and ladder climbing.  Job duties of the Meterman require awkward positions/postures including bending and twisting at the waist and neck while sitting and standing; reaching forward, to the side, across the body, and overhead; squatting and kneeling. 
  • Additional requirements of the Meterman position include forceful grip and pinch; manipulation of small objects; climbing stairs.
