Be a part of the West’s clean energy future! PacifiCorp is seeking a civil or mechanical engineer to join our renewable resources team which is regionally known as a leader in hydropower. Your daily workplace will be the scenic North Umpqua River basin in southern Oregon working on capital improvements directly with our on-site Operations and Maintenance Team.

General Purpose
Serves as the on-site engineer supporting the North Umpqua hydro team. Develops engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments associated with the planning, design, licensing, construction, operation, and maintenance of the Company’s hydroelectric generation and other utility facilities/systems. Projects include work on generating equipment, auxiliary plant equipment, fish facilities, dams, water conveyance equipment, and Umpqua National Forest infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Recommend solutions to emergent technical problems to be implemented by maintenance personnel.
- Develop studies and prepare data for cost estimations and analyses.
- Conduct or oversee site inspections to ensure adherence to engineering standards.
- Design, develop, modify, and evaluate systems, processes, or facilities to support Company objectives, utilizing engineering methods.
- Develop complex engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments.
- Guide and direct associate level engineers, technicians and drafters.
- Recommend alternative engineering solutions to management to meet business needs.
- Manage outside engineering services and general or specialty contractors.
- Maintain project timelines and budgets and monitor progress compared to plans.
- Act as a lead in the work group; train and mentor associate and career level engineers, technicians and drafters.
Requirements
Requirements for the Engineer II position include the following:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college/university.
- Communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations.
- Proficient with the use of personal computers and automated tools.
- A minimum of two or more years of experience in industrial power systems, electric utility power systems, or a related engineering experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge and application of principles in area of engineering specialty.
- Understanding of Company’s business, and relevant policies, procedures, and practices.
- Knowledge of applicable industry standards, regulations, and codes.
- Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations while maintaining focus and calmness.
- Ability to provide timely assessments with limited information and/or assumptions.
- Project management and leadership skills including the ability to work as a team member, to maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver on commitments.
In addition to the above, the Senior Engineer requirements include:
- A minimum of five or more years’ experience in industrial power systems, electric utility power systems, or related engineering experience.
Preferences
- Experience working with federal regulatory agencies.
- Experience providing technical direction for hands-on work
- Professional Engineering license in a related field

Additional Information
This position is based at the Toketee Control Center in Idleyld Park, Oregon on the North Umpqua River. Daily presence is required at generating facilities. On-site housing is provided by the company; the exact footprint of house will be discussed during the interview phase based on candidate needs.

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 12.00% of salary.
