General Purpose

Provide technical and environmental support to the underground mining operations by maintaining compliance with state and federal environmental laws and regulations.


  • Perform and oversee raptor mitigation activities. Obtain federal and state permits.
  • Perform annual wildlife monitoring and reporting. Prepare annual reports.
  • Perform air quality monitoring and reporting, prepare quarterly and annual reports, perform emissions calculations.
  • Responsible for archaeology surveys and clearances. Coordinate clearances through state and federal agencies.
  • Write mine permit sections, , prepare permit revisions, negotiate permit terms with agencies.
  • Coordinate preparation of mine permit annual report.
  • Perform operator duties for public drinking water systems. Report water analysis results to EPA. Maintain a minimum of Level 1 operation certification.
  • Lead radiation safety program. Maintain U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission license.
  • Monitor mine fences and supervise contractor in annual fence repair.
  • Responsible for State and Federal inspections by the division of Drinking Water (DDW), Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste (DS&HW).
  • Responsible for all revisions and updates to the SPCC Plans and Waste Management Plans.
  • Conduct in-house inspections for all sites.
  • Manage the Waste Disposal Program.
  • Perform water, oil and waste sampling.
  • Responsible for SARA Title III reporting.
  • Manage and responsible for the compliance of the water treatment plants and training of operators.
  • Coordinate and manage ISO 14001 environmental compliance program for company
  • Assist in supervising on-site compliance and reclamation crews to prevent or correct violations.
  • Conduct MSHA impoundment inspections monthly.
  • Orient mine personnel to environmental regulations and compliance in order to reduce the potential for violations.
  • Responsible for DOT compliance.
  • Maintain current knowledge of all environmental laws and regulations related to the mining operations and apply to compliance efforts.


  • Bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or related sciences, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of three years of related experience in mine operations and environmental engineering.
  • Knowledge of engineering, environmental and geological issues relating to underground and surface mining.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with government agency personnel.
  • Project management and leadership skills including the ability to work as a team member, maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver on commitments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations.
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations while maintaining focus and calmness.
  • Understanding the company’s business, relevant policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with the use of personal computers, including spreadsheet and word processing applications.
  • Ability to analyze data and prepare written reports and other written documents that are acceptable to regulatory agencies.
  • Minimum of Level 1 operator’s certification for public water systems or willing to obtain.
  • Cetified radiation safety officer or willing to obtain.
