General Purpose

This position is responsible for the energy pre-scheduling operations in Energy Supply Management (ESM) group, which is responsible for the company’s power generation and interchange scheduling with adjacent balancing areas, organized markets and scheduling entities. Responsible for monitoring system operations and adjusting operational activities accordingly. Manage daily activity around interchange scheduling, load service and appropriate transmission usage. Responsible for implementing and supporting company programs and policies and for selecting, coaching, and developing employees inclusive of employee salary management.

Responsibilities of this position include the following:

  • Manage the pre-scheduling group and daily functions to ensure efficient and coordinated operations with groups that support the day-ahead scheduling activities.
  • Manage the group to meet load/resource balances and adjust proposed operational plans accordingly.
  • Identify needs and develop new tools as necessary to enhance day-ahead scheduling operations.
  • Monitor and track compliance with FERC, NERC, WECC reliability standards.
  • Represent day-ahead scheduling at external meetings as appropriate, including participation in industry forums and/or committees.  
  • Author and maintain processes and procedures used in day-ahead scheduling operations.
  • Manage the group in planning and coordination of the company’s hourly interchange scheduling with adjacent balancing areas and members of various power pools.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for energy scheduling.
  • Work closely with the After-the-Fact group to make system corrections.
  • Responsible for the monthly bookout/pathout reconciliation.
  • Provide guidance and training on new software implementation.
  • Select, coach and manage development and performance evaluation of department staff.
  • Work closely with senior management and other departments in support of organizational.

Requirements for this position include the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Engineering or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of 7 years professional experience in a similar role/function.
  • A minimum of 3years’ in people or functional management.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, use oral and written communication to create a vision, communicate strategy, and effectively interface with other Company leaders.
  • Proven analytical and evaluation skills for monitoring resources, identifying cost saving arrangements, and monitoring compliance with contract terms and conditions.
  • Understanding of FERC standards of conduct and open access transmission tariff compliance.
  • Knowledge of Company’s strategic plan, objectives for specific area, as well as Company policies, procedures, and practices and federal, state, and local governmental laws and regulations.

Preferences

  • Advanced Degree.
  • Experience in electric utility system operations, knowledge of transmission scheduling, power scheduling, resource planning, energy trading, generations operations or energy information systems.
