General Purpose

 The primary function of this position is delivery of engineering designs for substation capital construction projects to include new substations and modifications to existing substations. Develops engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments associated with the planning, design, licensing, construction, operation, and maintenance of the company’s generation, transmission, distribution, telecommunication, or other utility facilities/systems.

Responsibilities

 

Responsibilities for the Senior position include the following:

  • Design, develop, modify, and evaluate systems, process, or facilities to support company objectives, utilizing engineering methods.
  • Develop highly complex engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments. 
  • Determine methods and techniques for obtaining results.
  • Act as a lead/expert in the work group; train and mentor Engineer I and Engineer II level engineers, technicians and drafters.
  • Complete substation engineering designs and design checks including the physical and wiring designs.
  • Recommend alternative engineering solutions to management to meet business needs. 
  • Deliver on commitments and manage outside engineering services to accomplish the assigned work.
  • Maintain project timelines and budgets.
  • Analyze and design engineering methods.

Responsibilities of the Engineering II position include the following:

  • Design, develop, modify, and evaluate systems, process, or facilities to support Company objectives. 
  • Develop moderately complex electrical engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments. 
  • Determine methods and techniques for obtaining results.
  • Complete substation engineering designs and wiring design checks.
  • Guide and direct associate Engineer I level engineers, technicians and drafters.
  • Recommend alternative solutions to management in area of specialty on engineering solutions to meet business needs.
  • Deliver on commitments and manage outside engineering services to accomplish the assigned work.
  • Analyze and design engineering methods.

Responsibilities of the Engineer I position include the following:

  • Analyze the system design, programming, and modification.
  • Develop studies of limited scope and prepare data for cost estimations and analyses.
  • Complete specifications and evaluate equipment supplier designs for substation and material acquisition.
  • Complete substation engineering designs including the physical and wiring designs.
  • Work collaboratively with other engineering disciplines to deliver complete project designs by the required due date to meet capital and maintenance budget requirements.
  • Run equipment and performance tests and install and inspect new equipment.
  • Conduct site inspections to ensure adherence to engineering standards.
  • Develop project delivery schedules.

Requirements

 

Requirements for the Senior position include the Engineering II requirements plus the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college/university.
  • A minimum of five or more years experience in industrial power systems or electric utility power systems, or related professional experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and application of principles in area of engineering specialty.
  • Project management and leadership skills including the ability to lead an engineering team and work as a team member, to maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver on commitments.
  • Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations.

Requirements for the Mid-level Engineer II position include the Engineering I requirements, plus the following:

  • A minimum of two or more years of directly related experience in the applicable engineering field.
  • Knowledge and application of principles in area of engineering specialty.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations.
  • Understanding of Company’s business, and relevant policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, local laws, regulations, the National Electric Codes and the National Electric Safety Code (if required for the position).
  • Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations while maintaining focus and calmness.
  • Ability to provide timely assessments with limited information and/or assumptions.

Requirements for the Associate Engineer I position include the following:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited college/university.
  • Basic knowledge and application of principles in area of engineering specialty.
  • Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations (if required for the position).
  • Ability to interact favorably with project and work teams.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations.
  • Proficient with the use of personal computers and automated tools. 

Preferences

 

Engineer II

  • Engineering experience specific to industrial power systems or electric utility power systems.

Engineer I

  • Engineering internship or experience specific to substation engineering discipline.
  • Completion of internship with an electrical utility.
