General Purpose

 

This position is responsible for providing guidance and support for transmission system operations with a focus on reliability and represents PacifiCorp on various regional public power boards, such as North American Electric Reliability Corporation (“NERC”), North American Energy Standards Board (“NAESB”), Western Electricity Coordinating Council (“WECC”), Western Power Pool (“WPP”), California ISO (“CAISO”), and Southwest Power Pool (“SWPP”). 

Responsibilities

 

  • Assist on a day-to-day basis with operational issues and merchant interfaces. This includes database programs (EAS, CAS, and Endur), the energy management system (Monarch), compliance with control performance standards (CPS), and disturbance control recovery.
  • Provide operational support as requested for network customer issues contractual input from an operational perspective, and act as the backup administrator function for the Open Access Same-Time Information System (OASIS).
  • Communicate and collaborate closely with the reliability coordinator on matters associated with transmission reliability.
  • Work closely with adjacent balancing authority areas within the Western Interconnection to address issues and work towards quick resolution.
  • Act as subject matter expert for multiple compliance standards and requirements, including preparation of compliance evidence and responding to data requests as needed.
  • Provide operational input during ongoing projects.
  • Participate on various advisory committees and task forces on behalf of PacifiCorp Transmission’s interests, to stay abreast of current transmission reliability issues that could impact real-time operations or that could have adverse impacts on market operations and to provide input and recommendations.
  • Interpretation of transmission service contracts as they relate to real-time operations.
  • Assist with system operator training when required.
  • Additional duties as assigned or required based on business needs which may include travel.

Requirements

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of seven years of experience in system operations.
  • Oral and written communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to listen, establish trust and maintain confidence.
  • Ability to work with all organizational levels, to influence actions and negotiate outcomes.
  • Thorough knowledge of electrical system operations, EMS systems (SCADA), outage management programs (iTOA), outage communication programs (OASIS), personnel procedures, budgeting and company policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computer applications to include word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and mainframe applications. 

Preferences

 

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • NERC Certification
  • Knowledge of the company’s strategic plan, objectives for specific area, as well as company policies, procedures, and practices and federal, state, and local governmental laws and regulations
  • Knowledge of substation apparatus equipment, relay protection equipment and communications equipment.

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 20% of salary.
