General Purpose

Provides professional accounting services utilizing U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s (FERC) Uniform System of Accounts. Activities include interpretation of accounting and capitalization policies issued by governmental and regulatory bodies; analysis of construction project costs; preparation and maintenance of fixed asset records; external and ad hoc financial reporting that may extend beyond fixed assets.

Responsibilities
  • Analyze cost data on capital projects and provide recommendations to field personnel based on capitalization policies.
  • Create, retire and transfer fixed assets records; maintain continuing property records in accordance with the FERC’s Uniform System of Accounts.
  • Analyze and interpret asset construction costs to determine if capital vs. expense and allocate capital costs to final asset records created in PacifiCorp’s fixed asset subsidiary ledger.
  • Perform fixed assets/general accounting and month-end close activities through the preparation and processing of journal entries, reconciliation of general ledger accounts and support of Sarbanes-Oxley compliance efforts.
  • Perform moderately complex assignments requiring analysis, integration and creativity, including compilation of GAAP-to-FERC reconciliations and other financial analyses.
  • Provide financial, analytical and general business support to internal client organizations.
  • Consult and resolve internal/external customer issues which may be critical, moderately complex, sensitive or urgent in nature.
  • Provide fixed assets related information to support the development of regulatory filings submitted to state and federal regulatory oversight agencies.
  • Compile, analyze and interpret financial and non-financial data on an accurate and timely basis in the preparation of PacifiCorp’s annual report filed with the SEC and annual reports filed with PacifiCorp’s state regulatory commissions.
  • Coordinate internal data requests to gather support for SEC, FERC and other external filings and to ensure timely and accurate completion.
  • Perform ad hoc reporting, which may include drafting responses to data requests from state regulatory commissions, external auditors, other regulatory bodies and other internal requests.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of three years of relevant work experience that has contributed to the development of proven accounting, interpretation and computer application skills.
  • General knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Analytical skills including gathering and analyzing moderately complex fixed asset accounting data and providing recommendations upon analysis.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult and resolve internal/external customer issues which may be critical, sensitive, or urgent in nature.
  • Ability to work with all levels of an organization including people with different styles and backgrounds; ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Proficient with the use of personal computers, including Microsoft applications.
Preferences
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • SAP experience
  • Knowledge of company accounting policies, procedures, practices, and system
  • General understanding of utility regulation and FERC Uniform System of Accounts and ratemaking principles is a plus.
