General Purpose

Plans, arranges for, and coordinates the company’s power generation and interchange scheduling with adjoining systems and other members of various power pools. Monitors system operations and adjusts operational activities accordingly. Schedules sales, purchases, storage and wheeling with other utilities.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this position include the following:

 

 

  • Manage the implementation of transactions for specific market points, including contacting counterparties, exchanging information, and create and track E-Tags based on information obtained.
  • Create a trading position for Real-Time traders based on generation forecasts, load forecasts, and trading activity
  • Monitor compliance with contracts and operational plans and determine appropriate action as needed.
  • Plan the company’s power generation and interchange scheduling with adjoining systems and other members of various power pools.
  • Monitor system operations and adjust operational activities accordingly.
  • Determine appropriate scheduling procedures for legacy contracts and schedule accordingly
  • Coordinate and schedule hourly power generation, sales, purchases, storage, and wheeling.  
  • Oversee the company’s power generation and interchange scheduling with adjoining systems and other members of various power pools.
  • Manage and schedule hourly power generation, sales, purchases, storage, and wheeling,
  • Obtain/exchange information for each energy transaction and account for each transaction in Energy Trading System.
  • Optimize the company’s transmission portfolio by redirecting existing transmission rights and purchasing additional transmission as needed 
  • Undesignate network resources to facilitate off-system sales per NERC guidelines.
  • Create NERC eTags using  tagging system.
  • Monitor and verify the approval of all NERC eTags.
  • Communicate with traders and trading counterparties to complete scheduling.
  • Ensure that all counterparty volume information associated with wholesale power transactions are accurately reflected in the Energy Trading System. Resolve any discrepancies with traders and counterparties in a timely manner to meet required deadlines.

 

In addition to the above, the responsibilities for the senior- level include the following:

 

 

  • Resolve any discrepancies with traders and counterparties in a timely manner to meet required deadlines.
  • Provide leadership and direction to junior staff and associated support teams (real time, trading desk, settlements).
  • Collaborate with real time, trading and pre-scheduling staff about scheduling issues and ideas. 
  • Identify new revenue producing arrangements with other systems.
  • Monitor compliance with contracts and operational plans and determine appropriate action as needed.

Requirements

Requirements for this position include the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Engineering, Marketing or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • A minimum of three years of experience with scheduling or dispatching activities. 
  • Knowledge of power and fuel contracts, pooling arrangements and licenses, power production installations and their interactions.
  • Knowledge of company policies practices procedures, applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Analysis and evaluation skills for monitoring resource conditions and compliance with contracts and operational plans.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills for communicating requirements and establishing effective working relationships with traders, dispatchers or other entities. 
  • Proficient with the use of computer applications and automated tools to support trading activities.

 

In addition to the above, the requirements for the senior-level include the following:

  • A minimum of five years’ experience with scheduling or dispatching activities. 
  • Expert knowledge of power and fuel contracts, pooling arrangements and licenses, power production installations and their interactions.
  • Process management skills for monitoring all facets of utility system operation. 

Preferences

  • Knowledge of the WECC transmission grid, power plants, market hubs, and interchange points between companies. 
  • Experience with electronic tagging and associated NERC and WECC policies and business practices.
  • Process management skills for monitoring all facets of utility system operation.
