General Purpose

Conduct highly complex accounting and financial reporting activities through research, gathering and interpretation of data. Act as an expert on technical accounting matters for GAAP and FERC requirements. May serve as critical reviewer for SEC and FERC quarterly and annual reporting processes. Utilize expert knowledge and analytical skills to prepare memos and other written communications and present information to management. Provide high level advice and counsel to management and client organizations. Conduct special studies and analyses, develop alternatives, present recommendations to management and influence management decisions. Research, analyze, develop and implement new strategies, programs, and/or processes in response to changing internal and external conditions. May lead other employees in performing accounting and financial reporting activities.

Responsibilities

  •  Research and implement new accounting pronouncements under both GAAP and FERC requirements, including coordination with the business units and parent company. Prepare memos and other written communications documenting conclusions.
  • Research technical accounting and reporting issues under both GAAP and the FERC’s Uniform System of Accounts. Prepare memos and other written communications documenting conclusions.
  • Review contracts for GAAP and FERC accounting and reporting implications.
  • Complete accounting and reporting checklists for quarterly and annual GAAP filings with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
  • Review quarterly fluctuation analysis compiled on a GAAP basis, including assistance with management’s discussion and analysis of the results of operations included in the quarterly and annual SEC filings.
  • Support the preparation of quarterly and annual SEC filings, including coordinating gathering of data from throughout the company and reviewing information compiled by staff.
  • Perform comprehensive and critical review of report support for quarterly and annual SEC and FERC financial filings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field.
  • A minimum of seven years relevant experience.
  • Strong and demonstrated working knowledge of GAAP, and SEC reporting requirements.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the performance of advanced accounting methodologies and procedures, including financial reporting for income taxes.
  • Proven ability to review policies and procedures and determine validity and develop process to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Ability to develop, document, implement and enforce processes and procedures.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult and give direction to internal and external customers regarding highly complex accounting matters/issues.
  • Knowledge of research and analysis techniques.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-paced environment.

Preferences

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with public accounting experience.
  • General understanding of FERC Uniform System of Accounts and ratemaking principles.
  • Supervisory experience.
