General Purpose

 

This position is responsible for functional oversight of the Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Field Area Network (FAN) support processes. Under direction of management assists with implementing strategic business objectives, strategies, and plans in support of Company strategic goals. Collaborating with and supporting Transmission & Distribution Operations, Telecom Engineering, Grid Solutions & AMI Operations in the development of sustainable processes, tracking, investigating, and auditing outcomes. Lead deployment projects and expansion activities.

Responsibilities

 

  • Under direction of management implement business strategy and processes to provide and sustain FAN support training. 
  • Provide guidance to ensure the department’s goals, objectives and activities add value to and support the company’s vision, values, and strategic direction.
  • Draft and maintain FAN support documentation including one-line drawings, installation/troubleshooting best practices, and other relevant materials.
  • Oversee process improvement changes throughout the system and monitor performance against standards.
  • Manage AMI FAN support administrative operations including but not limited to; hard down notifications, Return Material Authorizations, inventory, and reordering points; cellular lines of service, and obsolescence planning for cellular network transition.
  • Develop and execute a battery management and analytics program.
  • Provide semi technical support to linemen while investigating.

Requirements

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of five years’ experience in field operations, metering, customer service, engineering, or a related field.
  • Supervisory experience or demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Management skills including the ability to establish objectives, execute policy, monitor resources, and manage the development or implementation of a system, program, or process.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal skills to manage and motivate employees who may not be direct reports.
  • Strong knowledge of state and federal safety and environmental regulations (OSHA, Title V, etc.) and applicable codes such as NESC, NEC, ANSI, and NFPA. 
  • Knowledge and experience in the design, installation, operation of utility infrastructure including distribution, substation, transmission and generation.
  • Proficient with the use of personal computers including spreadsheet, database, word processing, presentation applications and SAP. 

Preferences

 

  • Advanced Degree.
  • Demonstrated experience with emerging technologies for generation, transmission and distribution systems.
  • Experience with AMI/Smart meter systems operations and deployments
  • Experience with process centered organizations, project management, contract administration and work planning and scheduling.
