General Purpose

As the Senior/Principal Technical Writing Specialist, you will lead the development and maintenance of technical documentation, policies, procedures, white papers and manuals. Translate technical and/or complicated information into clear, concise documents appropriate for various target audiences. Create and maintain technical documentation, policies, procedures, white papers and manuals. Compile, organize, and summarize data from multiple sources; monitor/track processes to ensure their execution. Ensure activities are performed in accordance with company policies and procedures. Act a lead within work group and provides guidance to train and mentor senior technical writing specialist level.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical writing and content management support for engineering related policies, procedures, manuals, white papers and other documentation as required.
  • Lead editing, layout and publishing support to ensure high quality of material produced.
  • Ensure company documentation is compliant with NERC, FERC and WECC policies.
  • Lead meetings or conducts interviews with subject matter experts to obtain technical understanding and clarification of documentation requirements.
  • Publish and manage content on company intranet and internet sites.
  • Coordinate requests for documentation and evidence.
  • Act as a subject matter resource to all levels of the organization.
  • Recommend alternative processes and practices.
  • Act as a lead/expert in the work group; train and mentor technical writing specialist level.

 

In addition, the responsibilities of the Principal Level include:

  • Champion and oversee advanced technical writing initiatives, providing leadership and comprehensive content management support for engineering-related policies, procedures, manuals, white papers, and other critical documentation as necessary.
  • Manage information collection from diverse internal and external sources and provide technical writing expertise to support federal and state regulatory reporting across a six state region.
  • Manage information collection from diverse internal and external sources to support federal and state grant funding initiatives. Provide technical writing expertise to develop concept papers and federal and state grant applications.
  • Oversee essential periodic reviews of all internal company publications to ensure they are done within required deadlines.
  • Lead cross-business initiatives to develop strategy reports on technical and business management topics.
  • Support drafting of regulatory data requests and regulatory reports
  • Ensure company documentation is compliant with NERC, FERC and WECC policies.
  • Understanding and clarification of documentation requirements.
  • Act as a lead technical writing resource to all levels of the organization.

 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Technical Communications or other applicable fields; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of five years of directly related experience in technical writing and editing.
  • Project management skills including project leadership, task identification, scheduling, and cost/expenditure identification.
  • Highly proficient with the use of personal computers including publishing software, spreadsheet, database, word processing, and presentation applications.
  • Highly efficient in communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to consult with internal and external customers regarding matters/issues which may be sensitive and complex in nature.
  • Ability to work with all levels of an organization including people with different styles and backgrounds; ability to work as a member of a team; ability to present alternatives and recommendations. 

 

In addition, the Requirements of the Principal Level include:

  •  A minimum of seven years of directly related experience in technical writing and editing.
  • A minimum of seven years of project management skills including project leadership, task identification, scheduling, and cost/expenditure identification.

Preferences

  • Understanding of the electrical utility documentation and practices.
  • Knowledge of company and departmental policies, procedures, practices.
  • Knowledge of Madcap Flare, Visio, BroadVision Quicksilver and Adobe Dreamweaver.

 

This position is posted at two levels and will be filled at the level that commensurate with the successful candidate’s applicable skills and experience.

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 12.00% of salary.
