General Purpose

Provides geotechnical, surveying, construction, and civil engineering support by reviewing and developing plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments associated with the planning, design, permitting, construction, operation, and maintenance of the company’s generation, transmission, distribution, telecommunication, or other utility facilities/systems.

Responsibilities

•    Review, develop, modify, and evaluate geotechnical engineering and civil inspection reports, survey requests or facilities to support company objectives, utilizing engineering methods.
•    Provide engineering support for highly complex engineering studies, plans, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, and performance assessments.  
•    Determine methods and techniques for obtaining results. 
•    Act as a lead/expert in the work group; train and mentor associate and career level engineers, technicians and drafters. 
•    Recommend alternative engineering solutions to management to meet business needs.  
•    Deliver on commitments and manage outside engineering services to accomplish the assigned work.
•    Maintain project timelines and budgets.
•    Analyze and design engineering methods.
•    Provide construction and engineering quality assurance support for projects within the company.
•    Provide progress reports to management and other stake holders in accordance with an approved communication plan.
•    Coordinate with procurement to solicit external services as required for project deliverables.
•    Develop scopes of work for contracting to external services in support of capital projects.

Requirements

•    Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited college/university.
•    A minimum of five or more years’ experience in civil, geotechnical engineering, surveying or related professional experience.
•    Demonstrated knowledge and application of principles in area of engineering specialty.
•    Project management and leadership skills including the ability to work as a team member, to maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver on commitments.
•    Understanding of geotechnical, civil and surveying practices and methods 
•    Coordinate with procurement to solicit external services as required for project deliverables.
•    Manage bid process, contracts, for geotechnical, civil inspection and surveying services.
•    Negotiate with vendors and contractors regarding work scope changes and ensure that all contract commitments are completed on time per scope of work and specifications.
•    Develop scopes of work for contracting to external services in support of capital projects.
•    Demonstrated knowledge and application of principles in area of engineering specialty.
•    Project management and leadership skills including the ability to work as a team member, to maintain project timelines, budgets, and deliver on commitments.
•    knowledge of applicable federal, state, local laws, regulations and the National Electric Codes.  
•    Ability to perform effectively in high-pressure situations while maintaining focus and calmness.
•    Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills involving the ability to work cross-functionally to understand requirements, present alternatives, and recommendations. 
•    Proficient with the use of personal computers including automated tools.

Preferences

•    Master’s degree in civil engineering with emphasis on geotechnical or related engineering discipline. 
•    Seven years professional engineering experience.
•    Understanding of company’s business, and relevant policies, procedures, and practices.
•    Experience in electrical utility design and/or construction support.
•    Experience working with the electric utility industry, specifically regarding Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures (SPCC)
•    Detailed understanding of regulations and impacts for environmental compliance, specifically 40 CFR Part 112

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 15.00% of salary.
