General Purpose

Supervise the activities of the sub-transmission and distribution dispatchers and outage coordinators who are responsible for operating PacifiCorp’s sub-transmission and distribution system in the Company’s 135,000 square mile service territory.  Under the direction of the Dispatch Manager, the supervisor will ensure Company policies and procedures pertaining to electrical dispatching and outage management response are followed.  The supervisor will monitor and review the preparation of switching programs, ensure policies pertaining to operational alarm response and logging of events are complied with.  Supervise activities pertaining to customer outage restoration including crew call outs, issuing of notifications, updating of outage management system information. The Supervisor will be responsible for the communication of job expectations, developing or modifying operational policies, coaching and providing feedback and delivery of training to employees as required for the performance of these efforts.  The Supervisor will also be responsible for developing and promoting cooperative working relationships with field offices and support organizations.  The position will implement business objectives, strategies, and plan as identified by Dispatch Management

Responsibilities

  • Delegate work activities related to system operation, outage requests, customer outages, and the management notification processes.
  • Supervise employees and operational processes.
  • Implement operating procedures and analyze system performance.
  • Measure and report business and operational data.
  • Perform audits on business system data and examine actual criteria against targets.
  • Design, provide, and track training to Dispatchers and Outage Coordinators, including training required for NERC certification.
  • Respond to system outages and provide guidance in restoration efforts and outage notifications.
  • Coach and develop employees.
  • Update and review policies and procedure in Policy Tech.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of five years dispatch experience in the utility power delivery business, electrical journeyman craft experience, or a related field performing the duties of this position.
  • Supervisory skills including the ability to implement action plans for achieving objectives and to oversee daily operations.
  • Communicate expectations, coach employees, and provide ongoing feedback and training.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments in scheduling work activities, outages, and employee resources.
  • Computer literacy with Microsoft office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Policy Tech
  • NERC Reliability Coordinator (R.C.) or Transmission Operator (T.O.) certification (within 6 months of hiring)
  • Supervisory skills including the ability to implement action plans for achieving objectives and to oversee daily operations.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate expectations, coach employees, provide feedback, and work collaboratively with other departments.
  • Leadership and teamwork skills to develop and promote cooperative working relationships within and among departments.
  • Expert knowledge of established operational practices and procedures for utility transmission and distribution systems with emphasis on dispatching an outage management.
  • Knowledge of strategic plan and objectives for area, day-to-day operations of specific area, company policies, procedures and practices, and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.

• Prior experience in a supervisory role.
