General Purpose

Conducts analysis through research, gathering and interpretation of data, development of alternatives and recommendations.   Presents analysis and recommendations to management.  Analyses include, but are not limited to, feasibility studies, cost/benefit analysis, trending/forecasting, financial analysis, budget analysis and reporting.


  • Responsibilities of this position include the following:


  • Provide support to senior staff and management through analysis and modeling of the financial and economic implications of PacifiCorp initiatives, strategic programs, and operational activities.
  • Test, refine, and implement portions of production cost, business planning, long-term financial forecasting, revenue requirements and other economic and financial analysis models.
  • Assess the economic and financial impact of issues and proposals on shareholders and customers.
  • Provide presentations, modeling, and other analytical advice and support to senior staff, management, and other internal clients.
  • Perform assignments requiring analysis, integration and creativity for which the purpose, objectives, and methods are well defined.
  • Remain current on industry trends and developments.


In addition to the above, the responsibilities of the senior level position include the following:


  • Prepare weekly, monthly and annual financial results variance analyses to budget.
  • Assist with preparation, documentation and submission of monthly forecasts, including gathering data and analysis of related income statement, cash flow statement and balance sheet movements.
  • Prepare internal memos summarizing financial results and forecasts.
  • Develop and prepare ad hoc financial analyses and written reports as requested.
  • Assist with development of the annual business plan; including business unit coordination, data verification and completeness for assigned sections and summarization of analysis and related information for effective presentation.
  • Research and analysis of impacts of new accounting pronouncements on business plan data.


Requirements for this position include the following:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Finance or a related field; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience with financial analysis and modeling.
  • Knowledge of economic and financial analysis and modeling principles, concepts and techniques.
  • Research and analysis skills including the ability to obtain relevant data, evaluate complex situations, develop creative alternatives, provide recommendations, and negotiate and influence outcomes.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Data gathering, analysis, interpretation, trending, forecasting, and modeling skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable Company policies and procedures; applicable federal, state, and local governmental laws and regulations.
  • Proficient with the use of personal computers including spreadsheet, database, word processing, and presentation applications to gather, analyze, and model information.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills including ability to consult with internal and external customers regarding matters which may be sensitive in nature.
  • Ability to work with all levels of an organization including people with different styles and backgrounds; ability to work as a member of a team. Ability to present alternatives and recommendations.


In addition to the above, the requirements of the senior level position include the following:


  • A minimum of five years of experience with financial analysis and modeling, including cash flow and balance sheet modeling.
  • Experience in financial statement preparation and analysis.
  • Experience in business planning and forecasting, with knowledge of related concepts, practices and techniques.
  • Ability to analyze complex transactions, their accounting treatment and financial statement implications.
  • Proficient with personal computers including spreadsheet, database, word processing and presentation applications to gather, analyze, model and present information.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to listen and communicate effectively through oral and written means.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to establish trust, maintain confidence, and understand social behavior and interactions.
  • Ability to work with all organizational levels, and to influence actions and negotiate outcomes.



  • Knowledge of business planning and forecasting concepts, practices and techniques.
  • Knowledge of power system modeling concepts and techniques.
  • Demonstrated project or process management skills.
  • Excellent writing skills, including the ability to prepare well written reports or studies on complex technical topics.
  • Demonstrated team leadership skills.

Preferences for the Senior Level position: 


  • Advanced degree and/or CPA designation. 
  • Experience in SAP Financial Systems modules.
  • General understanding of utility economics and accounting, and knowledge of FERC Code of Regulations.
  • Regulated utility industry experience.
