General Purpose

Develop plans, designs, resource requirements, and cost estimates for construction and maintenance projects involving transmission and distribution facilities, data networks and network security, generation maintenance projects, and properties and facilities projects. May plan and coordinate cross-functional activities, change management and resource availability. Monitor systems operations and adjusts operational plans accordingly.

Responsibilities:

 

Responsibilities of the level 1 position include the following:

  • Assist in the design and development of data network plans for network upgrades and expansion.
  • Assist in the design and implementation of data systems, network configurations, and network architecture, including hardware and software technology, site locations, business continuity, disaster recovery, and integration of technologies. 
  • Participate in the review of analyses and technical feasibility to develop data network deployment strategies. 
  • Assess and review data network growth forecasts and to ensure that business needs are translated into network capacity requirements. 
  • Support efforts to resolve data network problems and incidents through root cause analysis and study of potential network deficits. 
  • Identify and test current conditions and provide recommendations to ensure that the data network infrastructure is positioned to meet business requirements.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

 

In addition to the above, responsibilities of the level 2 position include the following:

  • Design and develop moderately complex data network plans for network upgrades and expansion. 
  • Design and implementation of moderately complex data systems, network configurations and network architecture, including hardware and software technology, site locations, business continuity, disaster recovery, and integration of technologies. 
  • Review analyses and technical feasibility to develop data network deployment strategies. 

Requirements:

 

Requirements for the level 1 position include the following:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or related technical field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically 4 years of additional related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a Bachelor’s degree. A minimum of 2 years additional directly related technical experience is required.)
  • Basic experience with data networking and network security. Technical skills including programming, installation, configuration, and data base management. 
  • Basic analysis and design skills involving the ability to gather data on systems issues, define alternative approaches, assess business impact, recommend cost effective solutions, and develop and implement those solutions. 
  • Basic knowledge of current technologies, tools, applications, and vendors.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.

 

In addition to the above, the requirements of level 2 position require include the following:

  • Three years of experience with data networking and network security. Technical skills including programming, installation, configuration, and data base management. 
  • Strong analysis and design skills involving the ability to gather data on systems issues, define alternative approaches, assess business impact, recommend cost effective solutions, and develop and implement those solutions. 
  • Strong knowledge of current technologies, tools, applications, and vendors.
