General Purpose

Provides expertise in a specialized field.  Acts as a resource to generalist personnel to investigate and resolve problem situations or complex issues.  Researches, analyzes, develops and implements new programs, systems and/or processes in response to changing internal and external conditions.  Develops and maintains operational and procedural documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Create and develop detailed and complex designs that are ready for construction.
  • Interpret field mark-ups and engineering drawings per detailed drawings from engineering and department standards/guidelines.
  • Design utilizing standards to update existing plan and profile drawings.  
  • Train, monitor, and provide guidance to less experienced drafters.
  • Prepare plans, material lists, and drawings for both capital and maintenance work.
  • Prepare as-built drawings for emergency work and designs performed by third parties.
  • Perform technical and complex engineering-related assignments.
  • Resolve internal and external customer issues which may be critical, sensitive, complex, or urgent in nature.
  • Coordinate with external vendors on outsourced drafting packages to ensure company standards are maintained and drawings are updated correctly.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A minimum of three years of related experience.
  • General Fusion P8 knowledge.
  • Knowledge of engineering specifications and drawings, established drafting and design techniques.
  • Knowledge of current technologies, tools, systems, and vendors.
  • General EDMS knowledge.
  • Design skills involving redesign and development of detailed drawings from engineering guidelines.
  • Assessment skills including problem diagnosis and identification of proper methods and techniques to resolve and prevent future problems.
  • Previous utility design experience in poles and wires, and field experience in line construction.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work with all levels of an organization including people with different styles and backgrounds; ability to work as a member of a team.
  • Understanding of applicable company policies, practices and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively translate technical jargon into layman’s terms.

Preferences

  • Knowledge of electrical safety codes and design standards, as well as knowledge of the company’s design standards and specifications
  • Advanced computer skills, including SAP
  • Associates degree or greater education in engineering/drafting or a closely related field.
  • Experience with and understanding of electrical one lines, schematics, panel schedules, etc.
  • A minimum of three years of electrical drafting experience.
  • A minimum of three years of working with electrical utility drawings, plans and maps.
  • A minimum of three years of working with drawings referencing raster image files of hand drawn drawings and converting raster image files to vector format.
  • Experience working with as-built Substation and or Transmission drawings marked up for correction by company field employees.
