General Purpose

The senior data scientist applies advanced statistical data modeling techniques to large data sets to create actionable business insights. Uses statistical analysis software packages and business intelligence and analytics platforms to create dashboards and reporting capabilities. Incumbent designs, develops and deploys algorithms through statistical programming that: support complex business decision making, manage large amounts of data and create visualization and insights.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a primary contributor to asset management center of excellence and BHE data and analytics initiatives and projects in an analytics model and software development role by defining and clarifying technical project scope, developing technical approach and architecture and performing root cause analysis in support of addressing and correcting data-related issues.
  • Extracts, transforms and loads all source system data needed for each model implemented within the asset performance management mining software. Builds asset performance mining data models and monitors and optimizes the performance of all data queries to ensure ideal response times.
  • Communicates priorities, requirements and operational impacts and aligns with manager expectations with affiliate stakeholders in projects and department activities.
  • Documents technical and data requirements gathering and extract, transform, load (ETL) working with IT teams to identify source system tables and fields that need to be brought into the data mining and other software; collaborates with relevant business experts to validate data and system deliverables.
  • Develops data science model, code, ETL and software engineering deliverables in an Agile development activity cycle and performs system analysis, develops use cases, and identifies necessary model/system changes within code based upon specific requirements for the business.
  • Collaborates with vendor(s) on technology and software considerations, advises on adoption and timing of software patches and upgrades, identifies and communicates risks associated with operations with an emphasis on appropriate internal control considerations, supports investigation and remediation of operational issues.
     

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, mathematics, software engineering or a related technical field. 
  • A minimum of five years of related work experience, primarily in a data science, modeling and administration role. Experience with data analytics and/or data mining technologies is essential.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with any one of the following is required: Python, R, VenSim, Extend, Arena, Celonis, SSAS, SPSS, MATLAB, SAS/STAT or other advanced operations modeling software related to data science, business intelligence and analytics.  Capabilities in more than one area are a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating, processing, and analyzing geospatial data using both vector and raster formats, including proficiency with GIS tools and spatial data libraries (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS, GDAL, GeoPandas).
  • Familiarity with weather-related applications, including the integration and analysis of meteorological data (e.g., precipitation, temperature, wind patterns) for forecasting, modeling, or environmental monitoring purposes.
  • Experience participating in transformation projects and managing a variety of organizational stakeholders and goals. Strong project management skills; ability to prioritize and handle multiple projects concurrently.
  • Effective analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills to appropriately monitor and manage solutions and data throughout business.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary team environment, contributing to shared goals through clear communication, knowledge sharing, and proactive problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand and utilize computer systems and applications. Strong personal computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft Office. Familiarity with virtual collaboration tools (Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, M365, One Drive, etc.)
  • Experience in process improvement methodologies (Six Sigma, Lean, or other formalized improvement methodologies) is a plus.
  • Experience with asset performance or reliability improvement methods is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, ability to work with both internal and external stakeholders at various levels throughout the organization. Strong leadership skills, effective interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Preferences

  • Masters in data science or related technical field preferred.

This position is eligible for an annual discretionary performance incentive bonus of up to 15.00% of salary.
